UPPERVILLE, Va., June 5, 2025 — Standout performances in the hunter ring earned Fidelio, an eight-year-old Holsteiner gelding, ridden by Scott Stewart and owned by Dr. Betsee Parker the title of Grand Champion Hunter at the 172nd Upperville Colt & Horse Show presented by MARS Equestrian™. Stewart was also recognized as Leading Hunter Rider for his accomplishments this week.
The Grand Champion Hunter is awarded annually to the hunter horse accumulating the most points in the professional rated divisions throughout the weeklong show, held beneath the famed oaks at Grafton and Salem Farms. Fidelio impressed judges in the 3’6” Green Hunter Division, tabulating the most points among the horses entered in the 3’6”, 3’3” and 3’ Green Hunter Divisions, which are judged on the horse’s movement, jumping style and rideability.
Stewart tabulated the most points amongst the riders in the five professional divisions that competed in the Parker Hunter Ring at Grafton Farm, which included securing the Championship in the combined 3’9” Green/High Performance Hunter Division aboard Parker’s California Love.
Although Fidelio is a relatively new ride for Stewart, the pair have had much success since teaming up earlier this year, taking home tricolor ribbons at the Devon Horse Show, Kentucky Spring and throughout the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Fla.
“Fidelio gave it everything this week and it’s an incredible honor to win multiple titles at Upperville,” said Stewart, who splits his time between New Jersey and Florida when not traveling to competitions. “He’s a real athlete and he is beautiful.”
The 172nd UCHS continues through Sunday, June 8, featuring international show jumping, breeding classes, and family-friendly events. Spectators are welcome, and livestream coverage is available via ClipMyHorse.

About the Upperville Colt & Horse Show
The Upperville Colt & Horse Show, also known as the Upperville Horse Show and UCHS, is the oldest horse show in the U.S. Founded in 1853 as a one-day show to encourage better breeding and care of horses, the show has grown to a weeklong tradition with thousands of equestrian and equine pairs competing in a variety of competitive disciplines. Many of the continent’s top professional riders as well as amateurs compete under the spectacular setting featuring the famous oaks at Grafton Farm—the same location as 1853. UCHS is a 501(c)3 charitable organization that raises funds for The Churches of Upperville Outreach Program and supports other area charities.
