What is the UCHS?

The Upperville Colt & Horse Show is the oldest horse show in the United States. Founded in 1853 by Col. Richard Henry Dulany as a means to promote improved breeding practices and equine welfare, Upperville has grown from a one-day show to a week-long international competition.

Where is it held?

Upperville is held at the Grafton & Salem Showgrounds at 8300 John S. Mosby Hwy., Upperville, Virginia 20184.

Is the show handicapped accessible?

Yes! Upperville has handicapped parking and accessible facilities, including toilets and viewing areas. Keep in mind that the facility is grass and gravel- no pavement.

Is there a charge for parking?

Parking is free all week.

Are there events children would enjoy watching?

Yes! Upperville has been a true family affair since 1853. Check the schedule for days that have pony classes, Children’s Hunter classes, Leadline and Walk-Trot. The Horses & Horsepower Car Show is on Sunday.

When is UCHS held?

Upperville is always held the first full week of June. The upcoming show dates are June 5-11, 2023.

How do I get to the show?

The horse show is accessible by automobile. There is no public transportation. Click here for directions!

Can I bring my dog?

Yes! Leashed, vaccinated dogs are welcome at Upperville. Please bring your dog’s supplies (water bowl, etc.) as these items may not be available on the grounds. Please pick-up any poop.

Do we need tickets?

No tickets are needed to park in General Admission parking or enter the show. If you would like to purchase reserved seating, please contact us: [email protected] or 540-687-5740.

What are the operating hours?

Operating hours are generally sun-up to sun-down! The competition day begins early in the morning (most days at 7:30 am) and ends when the last horses have shown. For more details, please see the schedule.

What kind of food and drink is available?

Upperville has several food and beverage vendors on the grounds all week, each with their own type of cuisine. There are vegetarian and vegan options in addition to more traditional concessions such as burgers and fries. Click here for a list of our vendors.

Are there places to sit while we watch?
