Barb Roux, president of the UCHS, said, “Upperville is the oldest horse show in America and was actually started in 1853 to encourage better care of horses that were such a vital part of the economy. Young horse classes are an important part of the show and we are excited to have Caliburn Farm  host a free jumping competition for the 3- and 4-year-olds. This is a perfect example of how our community supports the show and our equine industry.”
Gail Dady, owner of Caliburn Farm,  said, “A lot of very nice horses are being bred in this country, but there are few opportunities for them to gain experience and showcase their talent. Free jumping is a great experience for a young horse; the breeder gains independent information about the horse’s jumping talent and, if the horse is for sale, it is great exposure. We are looking forward to hosting this competition.”
Entries will be limited to the first 30 horses and will close May 15 . A champion and reserve champion will be named in each division along with placings through sixth place. Prize money will be awarded for the top three finishers.
