Special Awards
The Presidents’ Trophy
The Presidents’ Trophy inaugurated in 2019, is a perpetual trophy awarded each year by the President of the Upperville Colt & Horse Show Board of Directors to an individual who exemplifies singular dedication to the community and to the preservation of the Show. It is presented during the Sunday awards ceremony.
The Randolph Perpetual Trophy
Mrs. Randolph was an icon of the Upperville community as a horsewoman, horse owner, and leader of organizations. She was President of the Upperville Colt & Horse Show for over fifteen years and Master of the Piedmont Fox Hounds for fifty years. She fox-hunted seven days a week in her prime and gave numerous young riders their start. She cared not what your last name was, but rather whether you had respect for the sport, had well-turned-out horses, and brought passion and interest to those around you.
This trophy was inaugurated in 2021 to be awarded annually to a person who has made an outstanding contribution to the Upperville community and exemplifies this same philosophy. The trophy will be presented during the Sunday awards ceremony.
The Theodora Ayer Randolph Sporting Scholarship
The Theodora Ayer Randolph Sporting Scholarship is given annually to a young equestrian who is an active foxhunter, interested in various horse sports, and motivated to improve as a rider and horseperson. Mrs. Randolph helped many young horsemen grow and reach their full potential; through this scholarship, the Show seeks to continue this tradition by helping the recipient become more knowledgeable about and skilled with horses and hunting. Acceptable uses of the scholarship include payment of hunting dues, riding lessons, entry fees, and tuition for equestrian educational programs. The scholarship will be presented during the Saturday awards ceremony.
The Spirit of the Horse Award
The Spirit of the Horse Award was established in 2022 through a grant from the Phos Foundation, the Glenn and Suzanne Youngkin Family Foundation. In cooperation with the Upperville Colt & Horse Show, the award is given annually to a woman resident of Virginia who, in the opinion of representatives of the show and the First Lady of Virginia, champions exemplary service to or promotion of Virginia’s equine industry.
